In 2000, priest Ivan Hordiienko was ordained to the priesthood and began to serve God and people.
In 2005, the government of Kherson has given one square to churche`s communitie headed by Father Ivan in use, where started building of the church in honor of the Kasperovskaya Icon of the Mother of God.
For 22 years of service priest Ivan creates different events with a goal to help people not only people who live in Kherson but also people all over the world. Of course, it happens with believers` help of this city.
In 2007, priest Ivan organized one of the largest winter festivals in Ukraine “Christmas Island”(«Oстрів Різдва»), where more than 2000 children participate each year.
So, there were organized a number of other events, which can be known in churches social nets, for example, on Facebook etc..
Not so long ago, on February 24, 2022, the bombing of Ukrainian cities began, including Kherson. Since the first days of the war, people`s life has changed dramatically: Ukrainians live in conditions of a continuous war. Now a lot of people who feel the shortage in food products, medecine, and essential items. Humanitarian assistance is absent because of the blockade of the city by the military forces, so there are no safe humanitarian corridors for the people who stayed in Kherson.
In this difficult situation, a lot of people some people had found themselves in precarious and difficult contiditions. That`s why priest Ivan, with help of members of the Church now provide people in need with warm meal: in one of the church`s premises, hot food is cooked by volunteers and given out to people for free. On Sunday the 13th of March, 76 people were fed, on Mondays of the 14th – 94 etc.. Now, more than 100 people a day come to the church in honor of the Kasperovskaya Icon of the Mother of God in Kherson to have a meal everyday.
In addition, priest Ivan tries to organize the delivery of these meals to people who can not leave their house, especially for sick and elderly people.
Also at the temple there is a fund, when people in need can take the donated warm clothes, shoes, and the medecine (if there is any that they need)
The situation in the city is deplorable – no one in the city has expected the war. However, what can we do? Today we can pray for the end of war in a shortest term, and also make our contribution to the saving as many lives as possible…
Our mission today is as difficult as ever, however, today it’s main thing for us is to save the greatest gift given by God – the lives of people!
